DOEgrantaimedatimprovingprocesstoreducenuclearfuelwaste.An$800,000grantfromtheU.S.DepartmentofEnergywillallowPennStateresearcherstoinvestiga(teanewapproachforremovingrare-earthfissionproductsfromthemoltensaltbathswhereusednuclearfueliselectro-refinedtorecycleuraniumandminimizenuclearwaste.HojongKim,assistantprofessorofmaterialsscienceandengineeringatPennState,willusethegranttowardefficientrecoveryofrare-earthelementsusingliquidmetals.
