Numerical simulation of nonlinear propagation of sound waves in a finite horn

摘要 Nonlinearacousticpropagationgeneratedbyapistoninafinitehornisnumericallystudied.Aquasi-one-dimensionalnonlinearmodelwithvaryingcross-sectionuseshigh-orderlow-dispersionnumericalschemestosolvethegoverningequation.Becauseofthenonlinearwavedistortionandreflectedsoundwavesatthemouth,broadbandtime-domainimpedanceboundaryconditionsareemployed.Theimpedanceapproximationcanbeoptimizedtoidentifythecomplex-conjugatepole-residuepairsoftheimpedancefunctions,whichcanbecalculatedbyfastandefficientrecursiveconvolution.Thenumericalresultsagreeverywellwithexperimentaldatainthesituationsofweaknonlinearwavepropagationinanexponentialhorn,itisshownthatthemodelcandescribethebroadbandcharacteristicscausedbynonlineardistortion.Moreover,finite-amplitudeacousticpropagationintypesofhornsissimulated,includinghyperbolic,conical,exponentialandsinusoidalhorns.Itisfoundthatsoundpressurelevelsatthehornmoutharestronglyaffectedbythehornprofiles,thedrivingvelocityandfrequencyofthepiston.Thepaperalsodiscussestheinfluenceofthehorngeometryonnonlinearwaveformdistortion.
