The61stUNGeneralAssemblyadoptedtheConventionontheRightsofPersonswithDisabilitiesinNewYorkCityonDecember13,2006.Thisisthefirstlegallybindinginternationalconventionontheprotectionoftherightsofdisabledpersons,thefirstofitskindinthehistoryoftheUnitedNations.Itisalsothelatesteffortsoftheinternationalcommunitytoprotectandpromotehumanrightsanddevelopmentofpersonswithdisabilities.OnMarch30,2007,ChinasignedtheConvention.ThefollowingisaninterviewwithMr.ZhangGuozhongoftheInternationalDepartmentoftheChinaFederationforDisabledPersons,whowitnessedthewholeprocessofthenegotiationsontheConvention:
