The difference of endothelial adherence between the clinical and commensal strains of Staphylococcus epidermidis

摘要 Staphylococcusepidermidisisoneoftheleadingpathogensofnosocomialinfections.Twenty-eightstrainsofbiofilm-negativeStaphylococcusepidermidis,ofwhichthirteenstrainsconsideredastheclinicalstrainswereisolatedfromcatheters,bloodandurineofpatientsinHuashanHospital(Shang-hai,China)andfifteenstrainsconsideredascommensalstrainswereisolatedfromtheskinofhealthystudentswhohadnocontactwithhospitalsinrecenthalfyear,wereinvestigatedfortheadherencetohumanumbilicalveinendothelialcelllineECV304andhumancervicaladenocareinomacelllineHela,respectively.Ourresultsshowedthattheclinicalstrainsweremuchmoreadhesivetobothcellsthancommensalones.Theendothelialadherencemaybeavirulencefactorassociatedwiththisbacterialpathogenesis.
