FAST DENSE MATRIX METHOD FOR THE SOLUTION OF INTEGRAL EQUATIONS OF THE SECOND KIND

摘要 Wepresentafastalgorithmbasedonpolynomialinterpolationtoapproximatematricesarisingfromthediscretizationofsecond-kindintegralequationswherethekernelfunctioniseithersmooth,non-oscillatoryandpossessingonlyafinitenumberofsingularitiesoraproductofsuchfunctionwithahighlyoscillatorycoefficientfunction.Contrasttowavelet-likeapproximations,ourapproximationmatrixisnotsparse.However,theapproximationcanbeconstrucedinO(n)operationsandrequiresO(n)storage,wherenisthenumberofquadraturepointsusedinthediscretization.Moreover,thematrix-vectormultiplicationcostisoforderO(nlogn).Thusourschemeiswellsuitableforconjugategradienttypemethods.Ournumericalresultsindicatethatthealgorithmisveryaccurateandstableforhighdegreepolynomialinterpolation.
