Polyacrylamide/silica(PAM/SiO2)compositecapsulesweresynthesizedbyinversePickeringemulsionpolymerization.Silicananoparticlesmodifiedwithmethacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane(MPS)wereusedasastabilizer.Transmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM),scanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM),Fouriertransforminfrared(FT1R)spectroscopy,andthermalgravimetricanalysis(TGA)wereusedtocharacterizethemorphologyandcompositionofthecompositecapsules.SEMandTEMimagesshowedthatcapsulesconsistedofaparticleshellandapolymerinnerlayer.Thecapsulesizedependsonthenanoparticleconcentrationinthecontinuousphase.Thecompositerigiditylargelydependsontheacrylamideconcentration.FTIRandTGAresultsindicatedtheexistenceofpolyacrylamideandSiO2inthecompositeparticles.AqueousHg(Ⅱ)removaltestingbythePAM/SiO2compositecapsulesindicatedpromisingpotentialforremovingheavymetalionsfromwastewater.
