TheoreticalstudyanddevelopmentofaduallinearpolarizationweatherradarinChinaarebrieflypresented.Alsodiscussedarethepotentialusesofthenewradarsysteminimprovingtheaccuracyofarealrainfallmeasure-mentsandanalysingthespacialstructureofstormsanddistributionofhydrometecrsincloudsbasedontheradarobservationaldatafromthefieldexperimcntsduringthesummersof1987—1989.TheresultsindicatethataC-banddualpolarizationweatherradar,afterconsideringthemicrowaveattenuationcorrection,maybeemployedtoquantitativelymeasurerainfallandtomonitorheavyrainandfloodeventsandbecomesanimpor-rantmeanstostudystormstructure.
