AmovablebedphysicalmodelwasconstructedtoinvestigatehydraulicdesiltationbyflushingandlateralerosionintheTapureservoir,Taiwan.Themodelscalingisbasedontherequirementfordynamicsimilarityofcohesivesedimentdepositinitiationinflushingprocesses.Formodelscaling,flumeexperimentsinvestigatingtheinitiationofcohesivesedimentdepositswerecarriedouttoestablishtherelationshipbetweencriticalshearstressoftheflowanddrydensityofthedeposit.Experimentsinthephysicalmodelwerethenperformedtomeasurethevariationsofthereservoirwaterlevel,theoutletdischargeandtheoutflowsedimentdischarge.Theprocessesofemptyingandflushingwereobservedandanalyzedinthemainflushingchannel.Oneoftheexperimentswasconductedtosimulatetheon-siteflushingoperationsonJune11,1997.Theresultsshowedthatthetotalcumulativeflushedsedimentvolumebyphysicalmodelingwasclosetothatbynumericalsimulation.Todealwiththefloodplaindeposits,experimentsoflateralerosionasanauxiliarymethodwerealsoconductedinthephysicalmodeltoinvestigatetheeffectivenessandapplicabilityfortheTapureservoir.
